(Library of Congress) - Handbook on the country prepared by the
Federal Research Division of the Library of Congress, describing and analyzing
its political, economic, social, and national security systems and institutions,
and examining the interrelationships of those systems and the ways they
are shaped by cultural factors.

Education Database 2000 (US Agency for International Development) - This
database provides access to 145 education indicators compiled from the UNESCO
Institute of Statistics and 62 indicators compiled from the Demographic and
Health Surveys (DHS) for several years and many countries.
- Indicators on Literacy (United Nations Statistics Division)
- Data for each country on the total adult population's illiteracy rates,
rates for ages 15-24, and for ages 25+, by sex.

The Environmental Information Portal (World Resources Institute) - This
portal leads to a wealth of information on regional and country-specific
coastal and marine ecosystems, water resources, climate, population and health,
economics, energy, biodiversity, agriculture, forests, and environmental
governance and institutions. Under each topic you will find a searchable
database, data tables, country profiles, maps, and features.
- ETHNOLOGUE - LANGUAGES OF THE

- IUCN Red List of
Threatened Species (International Union for the Conservation of Nature)
- The Red List catalogs and highlights animal and plant species that are facing
a high risk of global extinction. The information provided by the database
includes the species' taxonomy details, scientific name, common names, assessment
date, country/region of occurrence, population trends, and data sources.
- GENDERSTATS
(World Bank) - A database of gender statistics for countries covering
basic demographics, population dynamics, labor force structure, education,
health, and maternal mortality.
- Women
in National Parliaments (Inter-Parliamentary Union) - Provides data on
the percentage of women in National Parliaments for regions as well as countries.
- Abortion Policies: A Global Review - Provides information
on the abortion policies of countries, including grounds on which abortion
is permitted, reproductive health indicators, and background on policy development.

(UNICEF) - This website provides information collected from UNICEF's
assessment of the situation of children worldwide during the past decade.
Topics covered include child survival and health, nutrition, maternal health/maternal
mortality, water and sanitation, education and child rights. Several databases
providing country-specific statistics are included, as well as current news,
and data from the country-specific Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS).
- Poverty Monitoring Database (World Bank) - This database
contains country-specific household surveys, poverty assessments, social indicators
covering population, poverty, environment, and income, news on upcoming surveys,
and links to related sites.
- Social Security Programs Throughout the World (United States
Social Security Administration) - A summary of the country's social security
system's major features, grouped under programs dealing with old age, disability,
death, sickness, maternity, work injury, and unemployment.
- Country Reports (U.S. Committee for Refugees) - Conditions
for refugees and internally displaced persons in 120 countries. The annual
printed version is titled World Refugee Survey.
- Annual Review of Population Law (Harvard Law School/United
Nations Population Fund) - A database containing summaries and excerpts
of legislation, constitutions, court decisions, and other official government
documents from every country relating to population policies, reproductive
health, women's rights, and related topics.
- 2002 World Population Data Sheet - PRB’s annual data
sheet provides the latest population estimates, projections, and other key
indicators for all geographic entities with populations of 150,000 or more
and all members of the United Nations. Indicators include births, deaths,
infant mortality rate, life expectancy, population, along with others. The
data sheet is accessible by the various variables or by region and country.
